Reduced sperm quality (OAT)
In around 50% of couples experiencing infertility, the male sperm is the reason why a pregnancy cannot be attained in a natural way.
This can be easily and quickly clarified by undertaking a spermiogram. This can be done at your urologist or directly at Dr Loimer’s fertility clinics.
The causes for reduced sperm quality can be one of many:
- External influences
- Stress, etc.
A spermiogram only shows a “snap shot” of the sperm quality. In order to ensure accurate results, the spermiogram should be repeated after at least 8 weeks.
Dr loimer's fertility clinics in wels and vienna are members of the "external quality control for semen analysis in germany" (QUADEGA)
When evaluating sperm, the following factors are decisive:
- Density (number of sperm per millilitre)
- Motility (the movement of sperm)
- Morphology (the shape of sperm)
Tips to improve your sperm quality:
Exercise regularlyReduce your alcohol consumptionReduce your intake of unsaturated fat acids ("Becel", fish, omega-3 fat acids)Eat plenty of fruit and vegetablesRegular sexual intercourse, 2 times a weekModerate coffee consumptionTaking MACA up to 1500mg dailyGive up nicotine!!!Avoid tight trousersAvoid hot baths and saunasDon't use heated car seatsAvoid stressAvoid contact with paint, steams and spray chemicals
Please remember that although you are making long-term changes to your lifestyle, your sperm quality can be improved after as little as three months. During illness (flu, fever, inflammation, when taking antibiotics) sperm quality can deteriorate and can take up to 12 weeks to fully regenerate.
You can have a spermiogram to assess your sperm quality according to the WHO guidelines at any time at the KinderWunschKlinik in Wels or Vienna. Please make an appointment under the respective telephone number or via e-mail.
If you prefer to produce your sperm sample outside of the clinic, please remember that it must be brought to our lab within 30 to 45 minutes and kept at body temperature
