Causes of Infertility in Men and Women

If no pregnancy occurs for couples desiring to have children, they can turn to our VivaNeo clinics. We help investigate the causes. It could be that some reasons for infertility identified in the woman, some in the man, but some possible causes can affect both parties. Such as illnesses, for example, or medical treatments. These include the following:

  • Cancer and chemotherapy: Treatment (chemo, radiation) can reduce fertility.
  • Diabetes: An elevated blood sugar level can affect semen volume and thus the fertility of the man. Diabetes can also be a cause of the unfulfilled desire to have children in women.
  • Thyroid disorders: An underactive or overactive thyroid can cause fertility problems in both women and men.
  • Genetic infertility: One's unfulfilled desire to have a child can have genetic causes. These may be due to changes in the chromosomes (carriers of genetic material) or due to genetic changes.

However, an unhealthy lifestyle, such as smoking, weight problems, stress, a poor diet or over-consumption of alcohol can have a negative impact on fertility in both women and men. Likewise, one's mental state also plays a vital role when trying for a baby.
