In vitro fertilization (IVF) is first followed by a hormonal stimulation of the woman, during which matured oocytes are removed. These are then - outside the body - brought together with the processed sperm of the partner. Should fertilization succeed, up to two embryos will be transferred to the woman's uterus after 2-5 days. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is also known as assisted fertilization.
If there is little chance of success with an IVF, it may be necessary to fertilize the oocytes obtained after hormonal stimulation in the laboratory by microinjection with one sperm cell each. The resulting embryos are transferred to the uterus, as in IVF.
If the sperm quality of the male is severely limited, an intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be used. The individual sperm are wound up in a hollow needle and then injected into the oocytes obtained by the puncture of the woman.
In a P-ICSI, sperm are selected depending on their maturity, which is checked in a hyaluronidase binding test.
IIf, in some cases, no fertile sperm can be detected in the man's ejaculation, it may also be necessary to harvest sperm by biopsy from the testis tissue (TESE) or from the epididymis (MESA). These are then used for artificial insemination via ICSI.
Hormone treatment can increase your chances of getting pregnant. In the course of hormone therapy, egg maturation is usually promoted and then ovulation is triggered. This hormone treatment can increase the likelihood of successful fertilization and belongs to a treatment method of our fertility clinic in Wels.
Comprehensive diagnostics in the VivaNeo Fertility Clinic in Wels - individually tailored to your treatment
With different examinations we take care in our fertility clinic in Wels to get to the bottom of what causes our patient’s unwanted childlessness. Therefore, it is particularly important for our team of experts to explain the various diagnostic options that can subsequently be used as possible examinations.
Cycle monitoring takes a close look at the female monthly cycle. Various studies can be used to determine if the woman's hormonal cycle is normal, if an ovarian follicle is growing, and if the woman is ovulating. Furthermore, it can be observed whether the woman's endometrium is preparing for the implantation of a fertilized egg, and when ovulation occurs.
A laparoscopy reveals whether the fallopian tubes of the woman are functional. This is a prerequisite for another fertility treatment to take place. If the fallopian tubes do not work properly, it can affect the woman's fertility.
With 3D ultrasound (ultrasound examination), it is possible to take three-dimensional close-ups of the growing fetus. In the course of fertility treatment, 3-D sonography is used to monitor the patient's hormonal stimulation
In uterine scanning, the uterine cavity is examined, so that changes, malformations, disruptive muscle nodules or mucous membrane changes can be detected. These could i. a. the reason for bleeding disorders or for the prevention of embryo implantation. In uterine scanning, a small, two to five-millimeter camera is advanced from the vagina into the uterine cavity to look for fibroids in the mucous membrane as well as polyps or malformations of the uterus and adhesions. This procedure is sometimes combined with laparoscopy.
So-called strand breaks (fragmentations) of the DNA in the sperm of the male can be a possible cause of infertility. Whether these fragmentations are present can be found in a DNA analysis of the spermatozoa.
The sperm quality of the male can be examined with a spermiogram. The spermiogram is then analyzed for sperm concentration per millimeter, total sperm count, percentage of live sperm and sperm motility. In addition, a spermiogram can be used to display the pH value and to analyze the ejaculate volume and the shape (morphology) of the sperm.
